She wished to be
A lissome tree
A home
For leaves
For flowers
To grow on
Her wish was made true
Now she sits under the sun
Taking in its beautiful rays
Finally becoming one
With this universe

She wished to be
A lissome tree
A home
For leaves
For flowers
To grow on
Her wish was made true
Now she sits under the sun
Taking in its beautiful rays
Finally becoming one
With this universe
She knew she had to shed her skin
Had to be born a new
And in this vulnerable state
There’s not much she could do
To ward off the monster in the lake
There she waited
Contemplating her grave mistake
Waiting
For a new shell to form
Her fairy uniform
Digging
Nails full of dirt
Trying to find a magic spell
That was lost
Losing my sanity
Despising gravity
Then I remember
I wrote the spell once before
I can rewrite it once more!

Somehow
You forgot how to fly
You believed it was a childish lie
And you buried your wings apart from your heart
She found it odd
That she could not fly
They told her she couldn’t
But she didn’t understand why
So she jumped from the highest building she could find
She knew that her wings would never leave her behind

I lost it, somewhere
Between parking lots
Traffic lights
And
TV screens
That magic I used to see, unaided

The vines gave way
As if they were welcoming me
And the trees danced with glee
The vibrations of the ground synchronized with my own
And I knew then
I was finally home

They led me behind a broken barn
They showed me all the things they have done
Creatures that looked like smoke
