No shackles
But we’re not going

Lightening
On top of the world
We stood
Or so we thought
On the dorm’s rooftops
We slept
Explosions lit the sky
No thunder to fear
Just man’s lightening growing near
In time to get a shuteye
[That’s my Baghdad in 2007]
Possession
She cries about the things
She’s yet to obtain
But she forgets the things
Her life contains
Possessions left untouched

Days spent
No words given
My mouth forgets how to speak
Nothing done to be forgiven
Days frozen
I dare not do
Science
It wasn’t about the things we knew
But about the things we’re yet to discover
The earth reveals a view
Like no other
And I stand amazed by every particle
Wishing to unveil everything a bit better
2003 in History
They were barefooted
Running after the tanks
Men dressed the color of desert
Staring at the foreigner’s hands
Children waving
Glorious day
When they believed what the soldiers had to say
Freedom I long to know
Freedom they told me so

The fog rupturing the soul you called your own
And did you see the light so dim
But continued to march on?
Tell me of the secrets they refused to tell
The story of Adam
And how he really fell
Let me get lost, unleash your magical spell
Let me find my own way out of this mystery

Where
I lost my home again
They wrote to me, asking where I’ve been
But I had no clue
Address as strange as my name
Putting numbers together, everything sounds the same
Home, I’ll come back again
But you change places
Home, tell me where your place is
Beauty
Oh beautiful thing
Why do you hide out of sight
Oh beautiful butterfly
Why do you take flight
Gone too fast
Sweet moments don’t seem to last
Long enough
