She created her heaven
But let the devil in
Seeking punishment
For her little sin
After all
How can joy
Outweigh the hate
How can a woman
Singly create
Heaven on earth

She created her heaven
But let the devil in
Seeking punishment
For her little sin
After all
How can joy
Outweigh the hate
How can a woman
Singly create
Heaven on earth

Did you plant this vine
The one that poisoned your hand
Did you set it free in your garden, in your land
?
This poison that you can’t seem to find
Is crippling your mind
Like that vine
That someone else planted
When their entrance was never granted
But their thoughts slipped away
Finding roots in your bay
And you allowed them to stay
Cause you needed the company
Until your body was covered in a rash
And your mind started to dash
Across the negativity of their thoughts
Can you now realize
That you are not ill
That there’re poisonous plants, still
Lingering in your garden, in your mind
Rid away with them all
And stand
Strong
Once more
She said she wasn’t hungry
I’ve relied on the sun to shine
The moon to come back
The stars to glow
The trees to grow
But
Each had a cycle and a rhythm
They didn’t know
How fast I want to keep on running
So my heart
I’ll have to start
With you
Arms stretching out
Feeling the boarders of my imagination
Running my fingers on an unseen destination
How could I see things I can not imagine?
How could I become what I do not dare to be?
This box
Was not
Made
For
ME

The child that stood on tip toes
Trying to see the men outside
Through bullet holes- I watched
Much too excited for change
“It will be beautiful, like America… like you see on TV.” One solider promised me
That was back in 2003
When ISIS was a nightmare yet to form
When angels wore uniforms
When enemies were clear to see
When I did not know the difference between you and me
But now my skin gives me a label I did not earn
Not a’Doctor’
‘Woman’
‘Rich’ nor ‘Poor’
I wear a title that I can not for the life of me shed
But that is a thing I dare not regret
