My life was a journey that seemed too far-fetched

Born in Iraq I witnessed too many wars and a dictator’s death

As I walked to school, the wild dogs protected me

As I walked to college, the solider’s tanks surrounded me

Blood in my streets, or streets that were mine once

I now try to find the magic between the cracks in the concrete

And the happiness that I can create
